COUNCILLORS have hit out at the 'sad' news for Flint as it loses 'yet another bank' on its high street.

Earlier this year, the Leader reported that the high street bank, on Church Street, will be shutting for good on Friday, April 30,

The nearest Barclays branches that remain open after Flint shuts will be on Mold (High St) or a further 12 miles away in Chester (Werburgh St).

A Barclays document stated that the decision was made due to a decline in use over the last 24 months – with more than 80 per cent of its customers opting for telephone or online services opposed to physical banking.

At their monthly meeting, held via Zoom, Flint town councillors discussed a planning proposal for the removal of Barclay's Bank signage and the existing ATM to be removed.

Cllr Vicky Perfect said: "I'd just like to say how sad it is for the town of Flint to be losing yet another bank. I know they have got to make the building safe when they vacate it, but it is such a shame and it seems to me they are using the Covid situation as a way of closing the bank, which I find is very sad."

Cllr Mike Evans said he supported Cllr Perfect's comments.

He added: "If anybody does bank with Barclay's, consider moving to a branch or organisation that hasn't given any sign they are going to leave the town.

"It's quite easy to switch bank accounts and I would encourage anybody who was banking with Barclay's and still wants to make use of the high street, to use one of the remaining banks and take their business with them."
