HOMES were evacuated after a fire on a residential area in Sandycroft during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Crews were called to the Wood Street area just before 10.30pm on Friday night, April 16, after receiving reports that a blaze had started in one of the end properties in the row of houses.

Firefighters from Deeside, Buckley and Flint – as well as some from neighbouring Cheshire - were called to assist put of the fire that involved scrap metal and tyres.

A message was issued shortly after 1am via the North Wales Fire and Rescue social media feed.

A spokesman said: “A small number of affected properties have been temporarily evacuated.

“Due to large amounts of smoke, local residents are advised to close all windows and doors and stay inside.”

It is understood residents were kept out of their homes for several hours whilst crews battled the flames before retuning in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A fire crew from Holywell remains at the scene this morning, April 17, to dampen down the affected area.
