THE majority of people aged 50 and over in Wrexham and Flintshire have received their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine, figures reveal.

In Flintshire, 58,979 people aged 50 and over have been given a first dose of a vaccine up to April 11 – equating to 89 per cent of the area's population in that age group.

They include 21,490 people who have completed the two-dose course – which is just under a third [32 per cent] of the age group.

Figures on first doses for each age group in Flintshire show:

• 50 to 54 – 9,463 administered (81% of the age group)

• 55 to 59 – 9,571 administered (82%)

• 60 to 64 – 8,487 administered (85%)

• 65 to 69 – 7,909 administered (93%)

• 70 to 74 – 8,952 administered (94%)

• 75 to 79 – 6,288 administered (95%)

• 80 and over – 7,849 administered (94%)

Over in Wrexham, 49,545 people aged 50 and over have been given a first dose of a vaccine up to April 11 – equating to 90 per cent of the area's population in that age group.

They include 14,182 people who have completed the two-dose course – which is just over a quarter [26 per cent] of the age group.

Figures on first doses for each age group in Wrexham show:

• 50 to 54 – 8,219 administered (79% of the age group)

• 55 to 59 – 8,082 administered (83%)

• 60 to 64 – 7,305 administered (89%)

• 65 to 69 – 6,865 administered (94%)

• 70 to 74 – 7,067 administered (95%)

• 75 to 79 – 5,235 administered (97%)

• 80 and over – 6,456 administered (96%)

Across all of Wales, 1.2 million people aged 50 and over have had their first dose – 91 per cent of the population in that age group – up to April 11, including 416,000 who have completed the course with two doses – 31 per cent

Vaccinations are being given at 546 locations across Wales, including at 360 GPs, 41 vaccination centres and 35 hospitals.

The Welsh Government aims for all adults to have been offered a vaccine by the end of July.
