A FLINTSHIRE man who has a rare form of cancer is urging other people undergoing treatment to join an online support group.

Russ Warburton, from Holywell, was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma in March 2020.

He joined Lymphoma Action’s Wales online support meeting with his partner Karen to meet others with experiences that are similar to his own.

The group has been welcomed by those who have their own experiences of a blood cancer diagnosis.

Russ, 59, said: "It’s so good to speak to other members of the group who have lymphoma.

"Due to the situation with Covid-19, there have been no face-to-face support meetings taking place, but the virtual support meetings have been a big help to me.

"They are a really friendly group, and have been very helpful in sending me information explaining my condition and how to cope with it.”

Russ and Karen are also members of Lymphoma Action’s closed Facebook support group, Lymphoma Action Support UK.

“The group and the Facebook page are there to pick me up, but they have also helped Karen, too,” Russ said.

“I think that people forget that our partners are going through a tough time too and also need support, and the chance to ask questions to people in the same situation.

“I urge anyone that has been diagnosed with lymphoma to join Lymphoma Action’s online support meetings and the Facebook group.

He added: “There are people out there waiting to help you through all the trials and tribulations you are going through – you are not alone."

Karen Bonell, regional development manager at Lymphoma Action, said: "Anyone in the region who has been affected by lymphoma is welcome to join our online support meeting, including

partners and relatives.

"In addition to our regional online support meetings, we have extended our online support groups to provide support for family, friends and carers, and for young people affected by lymphoma.

"Our Facebook support group is also a great place for people affected by lymphoma to share information as well as thoughts and emotions about their diagnosis."
