A COMMUNITY council in Flintshire is bidding a fond farewell to its chairman.

Gwernaffield and Pantymwyn Community Council is saying goodbye to Cllr Richard Hughes, who has been with the council since 2015.

Cllr Hughes is moving back to his native Anglesey with his wife, Shirley, and was presented with a framed photograph of a snow-capped Moel Famau inscribed with his term of office both as councillor and chairman for the area.

He has been thanked for his time and commitment to his local community by fellow councillors and the clerk.

In addition to his role as councillor and chairman, Cllr Hughes has been treasurer of the Gwernaffield Church Hall Association for the last ten years.

In that role he was instrumental in environmental improvements to the village hall, and also acted as the community council's representative on Gwernymynydd CP School and Ysgol y Waun, Gwernaffield Hafod Federation of school governors.

Cllr Hughes said “I have enjoyed working with so many local people over the years and will always have a special interest in the wellbeing of Gwernaffield and Pantymwyn and hope to keep in touch with the friends that we have made during this time.”
