DIGNITARIES and organisations across Wrexham and Flintshire have offered condolences following the death of Prince Philip.

A statement from Buckingham Palace earlier today confirmed that His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh, had "passed away peacefully at Windsor Castle."

Cllr Rob Walsh, Mayor of Wrexham, said: "It has been announced by Buckingham Palace that His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, has passed away.

"It is with great sadness that the Council received this news and it sends its deepest sympathies and those of the people of Wrexham to the Royal Family.

"As a mark of respect the flags have been lowered to half-mast and there is an online Book of Condolence available immediately at https://www.wrexhamremembers.wales/"

Cllr. Marion Bateman, chair of Flintshire Council, said: “It is with sadness that we have heard of the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.

"He led a long and distinguished life during which he served the Crown with selfless devotion and generosity of spirit.

“On behalf of the people of Flintshire, we offer our sincere condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and her family.

“Whilst we know that Prince Philip had retired from public life, he will still be missed by the many organisations which he supported as Patron or President during his many decades of service.

“Flags will be flown at half-mast outside our main buildings in silent tribute.”

A spokesman for Flint Coastguard Rescue Team said: "On the death of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh today the thoughts and prayers of everyone within Her Majesty's Coastguard are with Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family."

A Flint RNLI spokesman said: "Everyone involved in the RNLI sends heartfelt condolences to Our Patron, Her Majesty The Queen, on the death of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.

"The Duke of Edinburgh has accompanied Her Majesty on many RNLI occasions and we thank him for his longstanding commitment to maritime services and a lifetime of support to Her Majesty."

A spokesman for North Wales Police said: "We are saddened to learn of the passing of His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

"On behalf of North Wales Police we send our deepest condolences to Her Majesty The Queen and other members of the Royal Family.

"May he rest in peace."

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service stated: "On behalf of everyone within NWFRS, we are saddened to hear the news of the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

"Sincere condolences and thoughts are with the Royal Family at this difficult time."

A spokesman for St Giles' Church in Wrexham said: "We offer our sincere condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and members of the Royal Family on the death of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh."
