Pupils and staff at a Mold primary school, have bid an emotional farewell to their headteacher.

After a dedicated career spanning 46 years, 24 of those as headteacher at Ysgol Glanrafon, Llinos Mary Jones is set to retire.

Miss Jones started her career in Llanfyllin Primary School and became headteacher at Ysgol Gwyddelwern in 1984, before taking the leap to Glanrafon in 1997.

She brought with her a passion and determination to raise the profile of Welsh-medium education in Flintshire and succeeded.

She leaves Ysgol Glanrafon as a happy, successful and oversubscribed school which is well into a multi-million pound build that will meet the demand for more local children to benefit from Welsh-medium education.

The Glanrafon community has rushed to celebrate Miss Jones’ commitment, kindness, and support as they wish her well in her retirement.

After 137 school terms, she certainly deserves it!

Parents, colleagues, grandparents, governors, and friends have expressed their sincerest thanks over the past few weeks as they contribute to many gifts to mark the special occasion: “Four of our children have been through your hands from your first day as head teacher of Ysgol Glanrafon to the last! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts", “A very long and happy retirement to you Miss Jones. You will be missed at Ysgol Glanrafon. Thank you for your kindness and dedication" and “All of these messages prove how much everyone appreciates the amazing work you've done over the years, thank you. Enjoy the well deserved break!”

Miss Jones is looking forward to a rest, particularly after a challenging year in education, and to seeing what retirement brings.
