Children at Little Scholars Nursery, Wrexham Glyndwr University, have enjoyed a day of celebration as the nursery celebrated their 10th anniversary at the Centre for the Child, Family and Society at the university.

Located on the Plas Coch campus, Little Scholars Nursery delivers exciting, provision for children of Glyndwr staff, students and the wider community.

Children who attend benefit greatly from investment in the centre by staff whose specialism drives the exciting initiatives the nursery is known for. Developed as a leading facility for sector research and development, work at Little Scholars continues to contribute to national initiatives.

Director of Active Childcare, Rebecca Mottram, said she is proud to have been invited to contribute to Welsh Government initiatives. In addition to local roles as a school governor she is a member of two national working groups, one developing the first whole sector Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care in Wales and the second, a working group developing guidance for early years providers delivering the New Curriculum for Wales.

As well as supporting apprenticeship opportunities, practitioners at Little Scholars work closely with a range of departments at Wrexham Glyndwr University offering bespoke learning opportunities for students.

It is clear that with so much expertise and investment going into the setting, children benefit enormously from provision in which no two days are the same as children explore the outdoor facilities, the sensory room and engaging in purposeful and fun play activities.

Rebecca said: "We recognise that now, more than ever there is a need for children to have fun and that is what this day of celebration is about! Our commitment to the wellbeing of children is reflected in their happy, smiling faces.

"They have really enjoyed taking part in the traditional party games. The staff team have enjoyed reflecting on all that has been achieved and developed over the last 10 years and they are looking forward to what the next 10 years brings!'

Karen Graham, Emeritus Professor - Childhood and Family Studies who was instrumental in setting up the centre, said: "It is wonderful to see the vision and philosophy of the centre continuing into this next decade. Work at the centre continues to prioritize the needs of each and every child through the exciting and engaging provision offered.

"At the same time, the dedication of staff to the children of Wales and beyond is evident in how they work with University academics and in their contribution to national initiatives in early years' care and education. Congratulations to everyone as they celebrate this very special anniversary."
