NATIONAL Trust properties in Wales are set to welcome back guests from next week after getting the green light to reopen from the Government.

From this Saturday, First Minster Mark Drakeford has allowed the Limited opening of some historic places and gardens in his cautious approach out of the national lockdown.

This relaxation came along with the beginning of the tourism industry being allowed to open up self-contained accommodation as well as the reopening of local libraries.

A spokesman for the National Trust said: “Following the First Minister’s announcement, we are pleased that we will begin to open our gardens and outdoor spaces to visitors living in Wales from Monday, March 29.

“We have been working hard behind the scenes to make sure our places comply with the relevant guidelines and measures so that they are as safe as can be for our staff, visitors and surrounding communities.

“As part of the measures to keep people safe, pre-booking will be required - please check our property web pages for the latest information.

“As we all look forward to longer days and warmer weather, we’re thrilled to be welcoming visitors back.”

Here’s what they say about visiting the Wrexham facilities…

Erddig:

Opening hours listed online say that the car parks will be open all day.

The parkland says it will be available ‘dawn till dusk’ and Erdding gardens will be open from 10am till 5pm.

From Friday, April 2, the natural play area is listed as being open from 10am till 5pm.

The house remains closed with no provisional date available.

Chirk Castle:

The webpage states, like Erddig, the car parks will be open all day.

The garden and estate says it will be open from 10am till 5pm and the Home Farm kiosk is listed as serving from 10am till 4pm.

The indoor parts of the castle itself, including the tower, remain closed until guidance permits attractions to reopen safely indoors.

What about the shops and restaurants on site?

The local attractions have on site shops – both of which list potential opening hours.

For Chirk Castle, they have a date of April 12 – with opening hours of 10am to 5pm listed - which is when Welsh Government have planned to allow non-essential retail to resume trading.

The café is listed as being open for service from March 29 - but this is for takeaway only until Welsh Government permit indoor hospitality to resume.

For Erddig, the date is further back, first showing the shop as open from May 1 between 10am and 5pm. The on-site restaurant is also showing its first lot of opening hours from that date too.

However, this could change and is dependent upon current case levels across Wales falling.
