MORE messages of gratitude have been shared by those who owe their lives to the medical staff who helped them survive coronavirus.

Since the start of the pandemic, Wrexham Maelor Hospital has cared for around 140 COVID patients.

One of those patients was Andrea Choudry – who marked the day of reflection on March 23 with a video message to the staff at the hospital that saved her life.

Andrea recalls her ‘scary’ experience on the intensive care unit earlier this year.

In a video dedicated to hospital staff, she said: “I kept hearing alarms go off and I still hear them and am getting flashbacks.

“My family was so impressed with your phone calls and the information you provided about me.

“I remember one of the doctors telling me he had spoken to my daughter and that she was a lovely girl. I felt really proud.

“The nursing staff kept talking to me about my family and even my cat. I think this helped make me feel safe.”

She went on to say that, months on, she was having daily physiotherapy at Deeside’s Rainbow Hospital and will hopefully go home at the end of March.

She continued: “I will be eternally grateful for the treatment, love and care I received from all of you. The job you do are so important and without you I would not be here to make this video.

“Thank you seems such a small thing to say after saving my life – but thank you from the bottom of my still beating heart.”

The Leader has previously reported on the gratitude of other local patients – including Malcolm Bagnall who also thanked the Maelor Hospital after spending Christmas on the wards with coronavirus.
