Upper Foundation Phase children enjoyed ‘Safe Haven’ sessions with PC Jane Ellis.

The youngsters learnt a lot during the sessions, which focussed on domestic abuse.

Children heard that domestic abuse is never their fault, to talk about their feelings and to understand the difference between good and bad behaviour of grown-ups at home.

With lockdown resulting in schools closing, it began to have a detrimental effect on children's learning, health and wellbeing.

As a result, the Year 3 children in Dosbarth Clywedog and Taff decided to complete a virtual walking challenge, from Wrexham to Paris, to raise money for Awyr Las and to improve their health and wellbeing.

Awyr Las is a local NHS charity which provides various equipment for the hospitals in North Wales.

The children successfully reached Paris mid-February and they have now set a new challenge to continue walking until they get to Rome. So far, they have raised over £580 for Awyr Las.

They have received a considerable amount of support from the local community. The local PSOs have walked with some of the children and the Wrexham AFC captain, Shaun Pearson, has sent a video of support.

There were lots of Mother's Day activities for Class 1, with lots of treats made to surprise mums.

The youngsters have also been learning about healthy and unhealthy foods.

It was agreed that although chocolate isn't very good for us, it is absolutely delicious!

In RE the subject was the Last Supper, with them setting up our own so the children could better understand what Jesus' final days were like.

Class 2 branched out, continuing their work on trees. They went on a hunt to find out which leaves and plants contain chlorophyll and then looked at photosynthesis, how plants make their own food.

By carrying out an investigation pupils found that photosynthesis can only happen when there is light.

Children also looked at instructions and what goes into them, by comparing lots of different types. From what they have learned, they will be writing their our own instructions.

On International Women's Day, the Junior Hub celebrated by talking about the differences in women's lives 100 years ago and today.

Going online, they found many famous women over the years who were renowned for becoming engineers, scientists, mathematicians, politicians, and then focused on the women who made a significant difference to the rights of women today - the Suffragettes.

The children sorted statements into 'then and now' describing how the attitudes towards women have changed as a result of strong and brave women standing up for the rights of such a large population of people.

There has also been time for reflection. After a really strange year with lots of restrictions, there have been positive and negative impacts to people's lives. Children used this to create poetry and drawing.

During lockdown, staff have worked hard to ensure the children's health and wellbeing are at the forefront of their learning, by creating fun and practical lessons and activities.

The children have taken part in various virtual activities to promote health and wellbeing and boost team unity.

The Year 3 have taken part in:

• Daily boogie catch up meeting - teachers check up on their health and wellbeing daily and congratulate/celebrate their home learning work.

• Monday One Minute Challenge - Monday meeting completing difficult but fun practical tasks.

• Dress up Fridays - children dress up silly whilst playing games and quizzes in our morning meeting.

• Rainbow Reward Week - children collected points by completing a variety of pieces of different work throughout the week. Teachers dropped prizes off to the surprised and happy children who collected the most points throughout the week.

• Astronaut College - the children have been learning about space. Once they had learned about the solar system they were required to complete astronaut training, which involved a variety of practical and written work. Children who completed the training were given an astronaut pack and badge in the post.
