A FLY-TIPPING incident caused the deaths of nine heavily pregnant sheep in North Wales, police say.

North Wales Police's Rural Crime team says its officers were called to a farm at an undisclosed location whereby sheep had been poisoned by garden waste which had been dumped in the field.

A Rural Crime team spokesperson said: "This is the direct result of somebody fly-tipping garden clippings into a field of sheep.

"A lot of garden plants are highly toxic to animals and due to this selfish act nine heavily pregnant ewes have suffered a horrendous death leaving the farmer heartbroken."
