A WREXHAM man will be putting himself to the test in memory of his ‘inspiring and reliable’ dad.

Chris Hatton has set himself the gruelling challenge of cycling for a staggering 630 miles around Wales, in memory of his dad – Robert Hatton.

Robert Hatton sadly lost his life at the age of 66 in 2013 after a brave battle with cancer.

Still in remission, Robert’s liver and kidney’s failed due to a rare liver condition and he passed away.

Son Chris, 32, said he wanted to remember his dad and complete the challenge for the ‘inspiring man’ who worked hard to provide for his family.

Starting on April 29 to May 8, Chris will cycle for 630 miles for two charities, the British Liver Trust and Asthma UK.

He told the Leader: “Dad was a carpenter and worked on part of the Racecourse so I will be starting there and going around the coast.

“It’s going to be so hard. I’m a complete novice but I wanted to make it tough. There’s no point doing something like this without making it hard, I like to think I will go through it and encourage people to donate.”

Chris also chose Asthma UK as he personally livers with the condition, which he describes as ‘exhausting’.

Ten years ago, he could not walk up a hill without an attack and despite nearly losing his life, he now can manage his asthma better.

Paying tribute to his dad, Chris said: “Dad demanded little from those around him, but always went above and beyond to work hard and provide for his family.

“He was the definition of a good person and taught my brother and I the values of being respectful, reliable, caring and kind.

“I am taking on this challenge at 33, half his age when he sadly passed away. He left us too early in life but with a lifetime of happy memories and taking this challenge on has given me another opportunity to remember him as the inspiring man he was.”
