A DEVOTED son has raised more than £5,000 in memory of his mother who was an inspiration and good friend to many people.
Lynne Lamb was known to many as the landlady of the Walnut pub in Rhosddu and as the colleague with an infectious laugh at the M&S store in Wrexham.
She passed away aged 61 after battling cancer twice.
During her illness, Lynne and her family developed a close relationship with staff, supporters and other patients at the Shooting Star unit at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
It inspired Lynne's son Stephen to launch a fundraiser in her memory for his thirtieth birthday with a target of £100.
Due to the popularity of his mum the appeal soon rocketed to more than £5,000.
Stephen said: "I could not believe people’s generosity for the love of my mum!
"My mum Lynne Lamb was an amazing, an inspirational and very special lady! She was a very popular character around the town. Everyone loved her."
He added: "Mum had battled cancer twice, the first time round we raised £9,000 for the unit. The support network and friendships we built in Shooting Stars were amazing. My mum's niece, my cousin Wendy has also battled with cancer previously and they have supported each other throughout the years. So as a family we have close links with the Shooting Star cancer unit and the staff.
"So it was a no brainer for me to set up a birthday fundraising page where the money goes directly to the fantastic Shooting Star Unit in Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
"The staff have been awesome! A real credit to the NHS."
Lynne pulled pints at the Green Dragon in Hightown before taking over the Walnut with husband Steve.
Stephen added: "She has pulled pints in pubs throughout the town for decades. Our family ran the walnut pub Rhosddu for 11 years."
He said that the family would like to highlight the self-referral service available at Nightingale House Hospice, saying that it can make such a difference, "it can literally be life changing".
Stephen said: "They are always happy to provide information and support.
"There should be more awareness of these services, where you as an individual are able to contact the hospice. This is to assess what support you and your family's needs.
"This service is invaluable. This place is not just about going their for your final days, but about increasing the quality of life for the patient and there family.
"If this information just helps one person who is struggling then my mum has made a difference."
Lynne worked at M&S at Eagles Meadow where she was popular with both staff and customers.
The store paid tribute to "our brilliant colleague" on social media.
It read: "We're sure Lynne has served you in some way during your visits to us, either in the café or the Foodhall, and she'll be very greatly missed by both customers and staff alike. You couldn't miss her infectious laugh!
"Tomorrow, we'll be saying our goodbyes to Lynne, and remembering what a brilliant, funny, compassionate and frankly bonkers friend she was to us all!
"In her words 'see ya later bud'."
Stephen said that friends and family would be able to give Lynne the send off she deserves.
He added: "Once this is all over our family plan to hold a fundraiser for Nightingale House in memory off my mum where she can have the send off she would have had it was not for covid.
"This fundraiser will be supported by my cousin's husband and member of the family 'Scoot' who is the lead singer of the Declan Swans. Along with Mark Jones and Ben Jones, the Declan Swans will play in memory of their great friend Lynne.
"It’s sure to be a great night! We just need a big venue!"
