A MAN has received "serious, life-changing" injuries following a collision on the A55 near Broughton.

Shortly after midday, North Wales Police were called to a report of a collision where a van had collided with a HGV tipper which was parked in a lay-by on the westbound carriageway between junction 36A, for the Broughton Shopping Centre, and junction 36, for the A5104.

Police, fire and ambulance teams attended the scene, with the male driver of the van airlifted by the Welsh Air Ambulance to hospital in Stoke with what police say are serious, life-changing injuries.

Police are now appealing for information in connection with the collision.

Sergeant Jason Diamond of the Roads Policing Unit said: “The van was travelling from the direction of the Posthouse Roundabout, heading into North Wales and I am appealing for anybody who witnessed the collision, or who may have dashcam footage of the incident or the moments leading up to the collision to contact us.

“We are also appealing for the drivers of two HGVs which were parked in a lay-by on the opposite carriageway at the time and who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.”

The westbound side of the carriageway was closed following the collision and is likely to remain closed for some time.
