FLINTSHIRE residents have been urged to keep following covid regulations after police gave out 'numerous' fines to rule-breakers.

Over the weekend, the North Flintshire police team received several reports of people travelling from outside the area on non-essential journeys, in breach of covid rules.

A spokesman said officers had been left with "no choice but to report in excess of ten different households for these breaches."

Inspector Stephen Roberts has this week urged residents to keep following by the regulations.

He said: "Everyone is getting tired of the rules but it would be a massive shame to ruin all of the hard work of the lockdown by breaching the regulations at this late stage. "I'd encourage people to stick with it and make sure we nail it once and for all."

Insp Roberts said while behaviour varies week-to-week, the breaches seem linked with the weather.

"We have issued numerous fines at Wepre Park and Talacre Beach in the last week," he continued.

"I appreciate it's nice weather and the beach and outdoor spaces are appealing - but please stick to the rules.

"We want to make sure people are safe and won't tolerate people travelling into our community.

"We will be robust in our response."

In a statement over the weekend, a spokesman for the North Flintshire team said: "Please help us, we don't want to issue any fines for this and the country is moving in the right direction towards the easing of restrictions but we aren't there yet. "Ambulances are queued up outside Glan Clwyd Hospital with patients, they are busy enough.

"Essential journey only or journeys within the regulations please - we will continue to check."
