CLWYD South MP Simon Baynes has joined Councillors and residents in opposing the decision by Planning Inspectorate Wales to grant permission for 112 new houses at Gatewen Fields.

Glyndŵr University had previously been denied consent to develop the site in New Broughton, however, it was announced last week that Planning Inspectorate Wales had reversed the decision.

New Broughton Councillor Alan Edwards said: “There are a lot of elderly and vulnerable people within this community whose voices have been disregarded in this decision.

"I am now calling for this decision to be put on hold until such a time that a public meeting can be arranged in line with Covid guidance.

"If there is any resemblance of justice, decency and democracy left in society the time scale on an appeal will be extended.”

Simon Baynes MP said: “I’m fully supportive of local County Councillors, Alan Edwards, Nigel Williams, and local residents in their opposition to the decision by Planning Inspectorate Wales to grant planning permission for 112 houses on Gatewen Fields.

“This planning application was refused by Wrexham Council in July 2019 and that decision fully reflected concerns amongst Councillors and local residents about the extra burden that this development would bring to the community in New Broughton in terms of traffic and other infrastructure concerns.”
