Prestatyn Sports FC: Sion Williams confident club can keep pushing forward

The NWCFA Tier 4 (East) Premier Division side have been without any competitive football for a year thanks to restrictions surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, but despite this lack of activity on the pitch, there has been plenty of exciting developments across the set-up thanks to the hard work of volunteers.

Williams, who is also the club’s treasurer, said the management team had given the squad some free time to concentrate on matters away from the game.

This was on the premise the season would be cancelled, which the Football Association of Wales eventually confirmed.

He said: “We have kept in touch with the lads through WhatsApp groups and the banter has been good.

“At the same time, we haven't put any pressure on them since Christmas to maintain match fitness with no start date, so we decided to let them concentrate on their own lives as everyone else has to in this time.”

Williams is confident the domestic game at the grassroots level can get back on its feet after so much disruption, with Sports looking to put some plans into action that includes further development on The Meadows playing fields, which they secured as their long-term home last year.

“The domestic game will come back there will always be people wanting to play the game. Whether it be under restrictions or not time will tell if it is under COVID guidance we all had to do during the friendly games and I'm sure clubs would do that again,” he added.

“I think there needs to be a clear road map from the FAW and the government for clearer guidance so we can begin to sort out plans.

“It's been difficult without football, but I've kept myself busy applying for grants for the club and working as a treasurer.

“We still have big plans, we aren't content with everything we have done at the Meadows yet, so fingers crossed on that. Some plans are already ready we just need some good weather and they can begin.”
