Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is on track to reach the target set by Welsh Government to vaccinate the first four priority groups by the middle of this month.

This is an outstanding achievement and is testimony to the hard work of the local health services staff, primary care colleagues and volunteers.

Another significant milestone will be embarked upon this week as the Health Board will start administering the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. This will initially affect the frontline healthcare workers who received their initial Pfizer dose at a Hospital Vaccination Centre. The pace of the next phase of the vaccination programme is, as always, dependent on supplies.

The rollout across Wales is to be commended. Last week, Wales vaccinated more people per population than any other UK nation and was the first to administer the vaccine to more than a quarter of its adult population. In North Wales, almost 156,000 people received their first Covid-19 vaccination, as of February 9.

Everyone in priority groups 1 to 4 (all frontline health and care workers; everyone living and working in care homes; everyone over 70 and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals) should now have been contacted regarding their vaccination appointment.

If you are aged 70 or over, or know someone who is, and haven't had your first vaccine or an appointment to have it, please call the vaccinations booking centre to arrange an appointment. The number to call is 03000 840004. Opening hours are 8am-5pm and although additional staffing has been brought in to deal with the increased volume of calls, I have been informed it is often quieter in the afternoon, so recommend people try avoid calling during the busy morning period.

Finally, it's still doesn't seem real but last week Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney became the new owners of Wrexham AFC.

With the takeover finalised, Wrexham AFC is at the dawn of an exciting new era. The club's profile will grow globally but I also believe this will be a huge boost for the town itself.

I am very grateful to have met virtually with the new owners. It was clear during our discussion they have done their research, they are very serious about this project and they recognise the club's importance to the local community.

They will do everything they can to be successful. After a difficult 2020, the positivity and enthusiasm generated by the Hollywood takeover is infectious. As soon as its safe for us all to return, the first game back at the Racecourse stadium will be something very special. Welcome to Wrexham, Rob and Ryan, and pob lwc!
