THIS week's Bangor-on-Dee race meeting has been abandoned due to "significant damage" from the severe flooding caused by Storm Christoph last month.

The behind-closed-doors fixture was set to take place on Friday, February 12.

The storm brought an immense amount of water into the area with the course sitting next to the River Dee.

As the river burst its banks, the infrastructure around the course suffered severe damage, so much so that this week's meeting comes too soon while the repairs are being carried out.

Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse said: "Due to significant damage from flooding caused by Storm Christoph, we have unfortunately had to abandon our fixture at Bangor-on-Dee on Friday 12th February."

The next race meeting is due to take place on Sunday, March 14.
