WREXHAM Council is now leading recovery work following the impact of Storm Christoph, it has been been announced.

In an update released this afternoon, the council said the situation at Bangor-on-Dee "continues to improve, with river levels dropping."

Roads are improving and the Overton to Bangor-on-Dee and Straight Mile roads are likely to be open by the end of the weekend, the authority said.

Regarding Lower Dee Valley, a spokesman said: "The severe flood warning was removed at 1pm today.

"Residents who were evacuated have been advised they can return.

"The council is now leading recovery work in both areas to help clean up and provide support.

"The weather forecast for the next 48 hours is stable with no significant rainfall forecast.

"If you need to report any issues related to the current weather situation in Wrexham County Borough, you can call the council’s out of hours number on 01978 292055."

Natural Resources Wales has confirmed a flood alert remains in place for the community of Bangor-on-Dee.

An NRW spokesman explained: "The previous flood warning has been removed.

"In addition to the area detailed, some localised flooding problems may result from surface water.

"River levels are above normal. We will continue to monitor the situation."

NRW also has a flood warning in place for the Lower Dee Valley from Llangollen to Trevalyn Meadows.

Regarding this area, a spokesman said: "The previous severe flood warning has been removed.

"River levels at Farndon have now peaked and will start to fall, although slowly, through today (Saturday) and are expected to continue to fall over the next few days.

"While the risk to life is reduced, flooding for land and properties in Farndon remains possible today. "Further showers are expected today and tomorrow but these are not expected to cause the river level to rise.

"Flood defences are now in operation and the situation on site is being constantly monitored. There is a significant risk of localised flooding problems from surface water."
