A WREXHAM man described the "life changing" impact he has experienced by learning to become a DJ.

Matthew Williams first got involved with the Yellow and Blue organisation, as well as The Friendship Hub Wrexham, in early 2020.

He loved music but before then, he'd never thought about learning how to be a DJ.

But 30-year-old Matthew, who has cerebral palsy, received support from Yellow and Blue to learn the skills and now hosts regular online discos for disabled people in North Wales and further afield, alongside YaB director Luke Pemberton.

He said: "It has completely changed my life and it has meant so much to me.

"It has given me a project and also a lot of confidence.

"Now I am the resident DJ and I am still learning, but I love to see people's faces light up when they hear the music they picked."

Pete Humphreys, founder of Yellow and Blue, said: "We started the discos in May last years and they were an activity for disabled people in lockdown. "Matthew joined us in early 2020 and we knew at YaB we could help maybe turn the passion and the ability he clearly has for music and DJ'ing into something special.

"He has just been amazing. We are so immensely proud."

Matthew added: "I want to thank Pete and Luke.

"It wasn't something I'd ever thought about doing, but I have never looked back."

His mum Wendy added: "Since the pandemic, Matthew has done so much work with Yellow and Blue.

"Luke and Pete took him under their wing and they saw his love of music.

"They really have made a huge difference in his life.

"It has made him rise, and us with him." Details of Matthew's DJ's can be found on the The Friendship Hub Wrexham Facebook page.
