A HOLYWELL father and son will be lacing up their running shoes in aid of a good cause.

Daniel Thomas will be taking on a mammoth challenge to help raise money for Holywell’s £2 Food Club at St Peter’s Church.

As part of his lockdown exercise, the dad-of-two will be completing seven marathons in seven days – clocking up the equivalent of just over 183 miles – starting this Sunday, January 17.

The self-employed PT will be joined on his mission for charity by his son Albie-junior, aged four, who will commit to running or walking a mile a day over the same week.

Speaking of the inspiration to fundraise, Daniel said: “I was running past the church and saw a person walking out of there with food in a couple of carrier bags.

“That brought back memories as I was homeless for two years and just before becoming homeless I was really struggling to have money to go shopping. I had a couple of friends who really helped me and bought food.

“From having nothing in my cupboards or fridge to having something gave me a little happiness and hope.

“From that experience, and being a keen ultra-runner, the fact that we as father and son can raise money and awareness for St. Peter’s Church and what they are doing in helping people to have a little happiness and hope is why we’re doing the challenge.”

The Leader has previously reported on the success of Holywell’s £2 Club – which has become a community asset to many who struggled with changing circumstances during the coronavirus pandemic.

The scheme was set up in March 2020, just as the pandemic struck the UK and his helped hundreds of people nearing crisis.

It will be guaranteed to run from the church until the end of March 2021, but the church is looking at ways they can continue to offer this kind of support for the community they serve.
