RESIDENTS across North Wales would support a 24-hour vaccination programme in the hopes of seeing an end to the pandemic sooner rather than later.

The Leader previously reported that Dr Andrew Goodall, chief executive of NHS Wales, addressed the possibility of a 24-hour vaccination programme.

At the Welsh Government press conference earlier in the week, Dr Goodall said they needed to ensure vaccination continued to increase and that nothing was ‘off the table’ in terms of choices.

The chief exec said firstly they need to extend the hours but if at some point over the next few weeks there is an ‘opportunity’ to do things on a 24-hour basis, they will do so.

We asked Leader readers whether they would like to see a 24-hour vaccine roll-out and hundreds of people supported the idea.

Sonia Goulding said: “Yes, I wouldn't care what time, if it means we can all be vaccinated quicker.”

Maryanne Pritchard said: “Yes definitely would have it day or night need to get back to normality.”

Liz Birch added: “I’d be happy to go early hours in the morning with 10 minutes warning - I think most key workers would.”

Mary Williams said she too would support the idea which would make it easier for shift workers.

Bernice Haycock said: “Yes and I am currently wiring for a start date to volunteer with assisting the vaccine rollout.”

Amy Victoria Jones told the Leader: “So happy to see people want the vaccine, it’s our only way to any normality.”

At the press conference, Dr Frank Atherton said that if there is a real demand for further hours of opening per health board, he would expect people to meet those demands.

However, he added they need to ensure they do not destabilise the NHS by increasing the activity elsewhere.

Lisette Firman she would like to see a 24-hour vaccination programme so ‘we can look forward to the summer’.

Cath Ellis said: “Yes definitely no problem as when you see your husband positive and what he’s gone through and left very tired though I was lucky this time negative they need to get these vaccines out quickly.”

Kay Lawrenson added: “Yes! Middle of the night, anytime! We're all so desperate for normality to return - book out village halls, unused school halls anywhere. Train as many people as possible as volunteers - let's say goodbye to Covid-19.”
