A MAN who assaulted his former partner and two police officers in an incident of "drunken violence" has been jailed.

Daniel Lee Skimmings, of Gwenfro, appeared at Mold Crown Court on Thursday.

The 31-year-old had already admitted offences of assault by beating, breach of a restraining order and assaulting emergency workers at a previous hearing.

In April last year Skimmings was made the subject of a five-year restraining order prohibiting him contacting his former partner Kayleigh Evans.

But on December 1 he went to her home and Ms Evans let him in.

Simon Mintz, prosecuting, said after drinking rum, Skimmings became angry and started to blame Ms Evans for him 'being sent to prison.'

He assaulted her by strangling her and poking her in the eyes, the court heard, as well as pressing her mouth which caused a cut to her lip.

Ms Evans contacted a family member, after which the police were called.

Before they arrived Skimmings grabbed his former partner by the throat.

Officers arrived at the property at about 9.30pm and at first Skimmings wouldn't let them in - but when he did he was handcuffed.

As he was leaving with the officers he headbutted one, causing him to stumble down the steps of the third floor stairwell and fall into a wall.

The other officer sustained a large cut to her hand in the ensuing struggle to restrain him.

Skimmings continued to struggle as he was put into the police van and shouted "I'll fight you all."

Andrew Green, defending, said: "Daniel Skimmings understands how serious this was and he understands the whole point of the restraining order was to prevent this sort of incident.

"Once he had sobered up and when interviewed by the police, he was described as being clearly upset.

"He offered an apology to the officers concerned."

Judge Rhys Rowlands said: "It was drunken violence aimed at your former partner and then officers simply carrying out their duties.

"You have regularly been before the court over the years, primarily for offences of violence."

Judge Rowlands said the behaviour "has to be viewed as a deliberate flaunting of the court order."

He handed Skimmings a 22-month custodial sentence for breaching the restraining order and eight months for the assault on one police officer to run consecutive, with a further eight months for the assault on the other officer to run concurrent - making a total of 30 months imprisonment.
