LEISURE centres in Wrexham are to close from Christmas Eve.

In line with the lockdown announced by the First Minister Mark Drakeford on Wednesday, leisure centres operated by Freedom Leisure partnership with Wrexham County Borough Council, will be closing at the close of play on December 24.

This will include Waterworld in the town centre and the Gwyn Evans Leisure and Activity Centre in Gwersyllt.

A statement from Freedom Leisure said: "Whilst this is disappointing for customers and for centre staff it is crucial to support the need to curb the spread of this deadly virus.

"Freedom Leisure members will not be financially disadvantaged by this closure:

Members who pay by Direct Debit for fitness membership or swimming lessons will not have their direct debits collected in December 2020.

Members who have paid in full will have their Annual membership extended for a further month.

Members will be contacted when a re-opening date is known to confirm whether a direct debit collection will be made in January 2021."

Andy Harris, Freedom Leisure Area Manager, added: “Whilst this further closure is frustrating we look forward to welcoming our customers back once more as soon as we are able to reopen”.
