FOOTBALL fans have made a huge donation to a charity ensuing families in crisis have something to look forward to on Christmas Day.

Wrexham AFC’s disability liaison officer Kerry Evans donated 500 gifts on behalf of the club’s supporters and the Wrexham community to North Wales Superkids earlier this week.

Kerry said: “Thank you to all Wrexham AFC supporters and the Wrexham community from the bottom of my heart. I’ve been blown away by the sheer volume of donations for this appeal. Your kindness is outstanding.

“North Wales Superkids is such a deserving cause, helping families in severe crisis to have a Christmas. I can’t say thank you enough.”

The Flintshire-based charity has been collecting toys to create gift packages for disadvantaged young people from across the region.

Speaking about the donation, Superkids’ founder Margaret Williams MBE told the club: “Thank you all so much to anybody who has contributed towards the amazing donations Kerry has delivered. It has absolutely blown me away and I can’t thank you enough.

“It’s a very sad situation that families are finding themselves more and more and more in difficulties and being unable to provide Christmas for their children.

“There are so many knock-on effects from this and it’s really a very, very sad situation that in 2020 there are families faced with these situations.

“All families we support are genuinely families in dire straits. We’re not here to help get a bit more under the tree than they already have.

“We’re here for families in crisis. We’re here to ensure there are smiles on Christmas Day and not tears.”

Ms Williams previously told the Leader how there are 'more and more' agencies' that have been calling on the charity for help right across North Wales and shared her worries that the situation would continue to get worse for some families as we get even closer to Christmas.
