A ‘COWARDLY’ thug who bit his ex-girlfriend and pushed his mum has been jailed.

Daniel Croft, 26, of Heol y Goron in Mold, appeared at Mold Crown Court for two counts of common assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Jemma Gordon, prosecuting, said Croft and Sharon Pollard had been in an on and off relationship for around a year.

On July 7, North Wales Police were called to a ‘disturbance’ in Leeswood after Croft got into an argument with his partner at the time after they attended a funeral and had been drinking.

The court heard how Croft left the address due to ‘having too much to drink’, but later returned and an argument had broken out.

Ms Pollard asked Croft to leave the address and followed him outside with some others, to check he had gone.

However, Ms Gordon said there was a ‘scuffle’, involving all of them as he was ‘kicking off’ and Ms Pollard could ‘feel pain to her right cheek bone’ and had ‘clumps of hair falling out’.

Ms Gordon went on to say a witness described Croft as punching the victim and CCTV shows ‘force’.

On September 12, the court heard how Croft and Ms Pollard had been out drinking and the pair had an argument.

Ms Gordon added that Croft went to his mother’s address and fell asleep but later that evening Ms Pollard turned up and the pair went into her car to ‘talk things over’.

However the argument ‘escalated’ and Croft ‘lunged at her, biting her left cheek’.

The court heard how Ms Pollard managed to get out of the car and attempted to remove Croft from the passenger side but her ‘pushed her, causing her to fall on the floor’.

Croft’s mother, Michelle, heard the arguing and went outside but was ‘pushed forcefully’.

Ms Gordon added that Croft then ‘lay on the bonnet’ of the car to prevent Ms Pollard from going home, but the police were eventually called and she drove home.

Croft was arrested and interviewed and ‘confirmed he had been drinking all day’.

Defence Counsel Debra White asked the court for credit for an early guilty plea and said Croft ‘admits his relationship was toxic’.

She went on to say he ‘recognises those women as victims of his behaviour’ and also recognises he has to ‘do something’ about his relationship with alcohol.

Judge Rhys Rowlands said the incident was aggravated by already being subjected to a community order and whilst under the influence of alcohol.

He added: “The victims were both women so they are cowardly assaults.”

Croft was given a custodial sentence of 12-months and a three-year restraining order.
