A GROUP was moved after a heart-warming gesture described as a ‘little Christmas miracle’.

Dragons Dinners have been providing a ‘hot meals on wheels’ service for over 55’s in Wrexham since February of this year, however, began to help more when the pandemic hit.

They say they have been moved by a heart-warming gesture to help out during these harrowing times.

Jodie Murphy said: “One of our lovelies got a little lost looking for our page on Facebook and tried to join a page called Dinner and Dragons based in Canada.

“The wonderful individual Jonathan, coincidently also a social worker, who runs that page not only went out of his way to redirect her to our page but he also made a fantastically generous donation.

“It's just proof that kindness can cross the oceans all the way from Canada.

"It's a little Christmas miracle."

Members of the community can donate to the group and they work with the Maelor and community hospitals as well as nurses to find out who is in need of a hot meal in the community, particularly those who have just been discharged from hospital.

Jodie added: “The lady who was looking for our page had not long got out of hospital and she didn’t’ have any food in. But we managed to get her food that day.

“We only launched the business four weeks before the pandemic so we were in the early stages and then the pressure ramped up because everyone was wanting takeaway food.

“As the months went on and the restrictions eased, we were struggling because donations dwindled but the community did a fundraiser to keep it going and we had a lot of support so things began to pick back up.

“We are now able to give out 55 complimentary Christmas dinners on the 23rd December and a shoe box scheme.

“Local primary schools have also jumped on board they are doing Christmas cards. We are just trying to build on the community spirit.

“A lot of people have been inside since March and morale has been a bit low, we want to build those bridges and let people know they are not alone.”
