A LLANGOLLEN bar and grill has launched a fun and festive mocktail in ‘tribute’ to the First Minister of Wales.

To quote from the new drinks' menu at The Three Eagles, the ‘Drakeford’, named after Mark Drakeford, is “Welsh, wet and uninspiring.”

Introducing ... the 'Drakeford'!. PIC: Three Eagles Llangollen.

Following Friday’s ban on alcohol, staff at the award-winning Denbighshire venue are introducing an extensive alcohol-free section to the menu.

It includes cocktails such as the Gingerbread Expresso Martini and Virgin Maes Mawr Mule.

So, what's the secret ingredient behind the Drakeford Mocktail?

Three Eagles director of operations Ada Gaunt Evans said: "It’s just water! It’s been a tough year for everyone, so we wanted to keep things fun in the run up to Christmas.

“We’ve taken a positive approach to the new restrictions by offering an extended menu of non-alcoholic drinks as well as expanding our outside area with heaters to allow more diners at lunchtime.”

The business has also developed a new ‘click and collect’ app for their takeaway service.

As of 6pm on Friday, pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes have to close by 6pm and will not be allowed to serve alcohol. After 6pm, they will only be able to provide takeaway services.

As expected, responses to The Three Eagles' Drakeford Mocktail were met with some humour on social media, with most agreeing that it was a 'brilliant' idea to introduce it.

One cheeky user wrote: "Is it water? If so I think you're doing water a disservice naming it that."

Another added: "Could the Drakeford please be removed from anything remotely to do with wales , its making people very sick and tired."

Another commenter said: "Looks a bit thin, I prefer my Drakeford to be clear as mud."
