Gemma Elizabeth Mary Williams & Mark James Williams, September 19, 2020

After Mark proposed to Gemma on Christmas Day in 2019, while the couple were on holiday in Portugal, they set about planning their wedding.

They planned for 50 friends and family for the day, and 120 at night. It was to be a celebration with their nearest and dearest.

Of course, as we know, that didn't happen. But the Mold couple still got their happy ending, just a different one.

And despite being an intimate occasion, their special day didn't go without attention. Gemma said they were really surprised to have received hundreds of cards and gifts, which all helped make their day special.

The couple now plan a blessing and celebration on their first anniversary next year, having postponed arrangements that were already paid for until then.

I asked Gemma to share a few more details about the day…

Where did you get married? Mold Register Office

Where was the reception? Beaufort Park Hotel

What about the details? My dress was bought online and then tailored by my mum's neighbour

I had the flowers handmade to match the champagne gold of my dress. Hair and make-up were done in my mum's conservatory

What was the best bit of your big day?

We had originally booked our wedding for June 6, 2020, but with everything going on we postponed to September thinking the awful situation would be over. But the whole day was amazing.

What challenges did you have to overcome?

We could only have seven people at the wedding, my mum and stepdad, my brother, his wife and their two children, and the photographer. My nieces were our flowergirls. We could only have two tables at the reception with a total of five people. I had booked a band, a DJ, a bouncy castle, a venue, so we have postponed them all for a year's time and we are going to have a church blessing next September to mark our first anniversary, so we can have the party we wanted with all of our friends and family.

Anyone you would like to thank for helping make your day special?

My mum and of course my husband.

Are you planning a honeymoon?

We went to York for a few days just to get away, but the main honeymoon will be in Cyprus next year.
