ST ELTHELWOLD'S PRIMARY SCHOOL, SHOTTON

The Leader:

As December approached, Class 1 started to think about Advent and made some Advent wreaths. Pupils learned about the significance of each of the candles on the wreath. They also enjoyed hearing the story of refuge about Mary and Joseph's journeys to Bethlehem and Egypt. Over the next few weeks, they will be spending lots of time learning about the Christmas story.

ST DAVID'S HIGH SCHOOL, SALTNEY

The Leader:

The school was recently contacted by Hana Helvadjian, a curate from St Mark's Church, Saltney, and asked whether students would like to take part in a Winter Gardens experience to be set up in the church grounds.

Preparations are well underway for the art installation and pupils have been busy decorating glass jars. The theme for the Winter Garden experience is the Christmas carol, O Holy Night, and St David's has been given the honour of creating the art installation for the opening line.

Students are "so pleased to be a part of this wonderful community project", which opens on December 5 at 5pm and runs until December 31.

ACTON PARK PRIMARY SCHOOL, WREXHAM

The Leader:

Children in Year 4 took part in an exciting 'launch day' to start their new topic - Missions and Ambitions. Pupils dressed up as famous, inspirational people from either past or present, including Captain Tom, Florence Nightingale and Marcus Rashford. The children started the day with a catwalk to show their costumes off for friends and Year 4 teachers Robert Parry and Rebecca Lloyd to try to guess who they were. Throughout the day, the youngsters carried out many exciting tasks to get their topic off to a great start.

THE DEE VALLEY FEDERATION

The Leader:

In March 2020, all three schools in the The Dee Valley Federation - Ysgol Froncysyllte, Ysgol Y Garth and Ysgol Pentre - took part in Ready, Steady, Read with Laura Rowlands from Usborne Books. This exciting reading event saw the federation children raise an incredible £882.50, which saw Usborne add another £529.50, making a total of an amazing £1,412!

Laura challenged the schools to collect enough money to buy books that would make a tower taller than her. Which is exactly what they did!

A spokesman said: "We can't thank Laura enough for the amazing support she provided during and after the event. We recommend the Ready, Steady, Read event to all schools."
