A LEADING disability charity has launched its first annual impact report for Wales.

Leonard Cheshire Cymru has revealed its report, 'Our Impact in Wales', today (November 23) which covers the period of 2019-20.

The report celebrates the positive difference that the charity has made in disabled peoples’ lives over the past 18 months, enabling them to live, learn and work as independently as they choose.

The Leader:

The Impact Report is introduced by Michelle Waldman, who volunteered with Leonard Cheshire in May 2019 as part of its Changing Futures programme, before securing a job at its Swansea-based social enterprise coffee shop, the Social Bean.

In her introduction, Ms Waldman sets out the life-changing impact of the opportunities and support she has received thanks to the charity.

She said: "When I look back on how far I have come, I am astounded at what I have been able to accomplish, and so proud. I never thought that with my past I would ever have a job.

"My confidence is through the roof and I am happy and grateful to those who saw potential in me.

"It has given me something to get up every day for."

Glyn Meredith, Leonard Cheshire’s director for Wales, added: "I am delighted to share our first Wales-specific impact report, which includes a special annex that highlights the great work we have been doing throughout the pandemic.

"Every life lost because of the virus is one too many, an empty space at the kitchen table, a loved one that families will mourn for years to come.

"But throughout this adversity we have adapted, remaining dedicated to improving the lives of disabled people, connecting with more communities across Wales than ever before, and providing much needed support in these dark times."
