A GREENFIELD schoolgirl has raised hundreds of pounds ahead of a charity haircut.

Darcey Willow Schofield, aged 9, has been growing her hair in order to donate some of it to Little Princess Trust.

The charity provides real hair wigs to children and young people with hair loss.

Darcey's proud grandmother Tanya Johnson said: "She was going to get a haircut a few months ago but then she decided she wanted to let it grow.

"I think she must have heard about the Little Princess Trust and she decided to do this off her own back. "She's got beautiful long hair - it's about 16 or 17 inches long now and she's having 12 inches cut off to be donated.

"And she's not only having her hair cut, she's raised about £600 too.

"We put her poster up in the Greenfield Premier shop and the Greenfield Chip Shop and people have been donating. "Her mum and her aunt put an appeal on Facebook too."

Mrs Johnson said Darcey, who goes to Ysgol Maesglas, had initially aimed to raise £300.

"Now she's gone over her target she's absolutely ecstatic," she said. "We're just thrilled and so proud of her.

"She's having her cut on December 12 and she's so excited and happy."
