CLWYD South MP Simon Baynes has welcomed news of a £750,000 financial support package to be distributed amongst all 44 Cymru Leagues football clubs in Wales including Cefn Druids FC and Corwen FC in his constituency.

The financial package, which was facilitated by the UK Government and has been jointly established by the Football Association of Wales (FAW) and The National Lottery will see clubs in the JD Cymru Premier, JD Cymru North and the JD Cymru South receive funding while matches continue to be played behind closed doors.

The funds will play a key role in ensuring that the clubs can continue to exist and operate during these difficult times.

Secretary of State for Wales, Simon Hart MP, said: “Clubs in the Cymru Leagues play a huge role in their local communities and, like many others, they have been struggling in the current climate.

"I’m delighted that the UK Government could help bring The National Lottery and the football authorities together to deliver for these clubs and for grassroots football in Wales. From Prestatyn to Taffs Well, this funding package will help enable clubs to keep going until fans can safely return.”

Welcoming the news, Simon Baynes MP said: “This financial package is brilliant news and recognises the vital role that Cymru Leagues clubs play at the core of our communities in Clwyd South and elsewhere in Wales.

"They act as hubs for people to come together and give our children, young people and adults opportunities to stay active, as well as bringing a source of pride and community spirit to their towns and villages.

“I am very grateful to the Secretary of State for Wales Simon Hart for his role in bringing the FAW and The National Lottery together in delivering this vital support for our clubs, and very much hope that it will enable clubs to keep going until fans can safely return to grounds.”
