THE wisdom of an academic skills tutor from Wrexham Glyndwr University is being shared with students across the country – thanks to his debut book.

Andrew Edwards, from Wrexham, has distilled a decade’s worth of experience as an academic skills tutor into Beat Your Writer’s Block which has just been released to pre-order by educational publishing group SAGE Publishing.

The book is aimed at helping students hone their writing skills through a range of techniques – and Andrew, who has a PhD from Wrexham Glyndwr University himself, says he has drawn on them throughout his career.

He said: “Beat Your Writer’s Block is designed with new and inexperienced students in mind.

"I wrote it as a guide to help students who get anxious about writing at university, particularly when they struggle to start, and complete, their assignments.

“The book contains advice and practical strategies that students can use to help them research, plan and write their assignments.

"It acts a positive and instructive tool to spur students in the development of their writing skills at university.”

With copies of his book now on sale, Andrew is set to join his Glyndwr colleague Helen Coleman – who published a study guide for SAGE Publishing at the start of this year – on university library bookshelves around the country.

However, despite having written articles and research for publications around the globe, it will be Andrew’s debut full-length work.

He said: “This is the first book I’ve written for students – indeed, it is my first book for anyone.

"My PhD at Wrexham Glyndwr University help me to develop the discipline needed to write a book.

“I have written lots of articles and shorter pieces on my research area – Comics Studies – but this is the first time I have written at length about writing at university, which I have taught here at Glyndwr for almost 10 years as an Academic Skills Tutor.

"However, these are all skills I definitely draw upon when I am writing – this is advice that I have lived by."
