TWO celebrities have donned their Wrexham AFC shirts in honour of the club's new Hollywood owners.

Actor Jason Watkins, star of Des, The Crown, and perennial Christmas favourite Nativity, tweeted a photo of him and John Cleese in the red shirts of Wrexham AFC.

Jason also revealed that before the acting bug took hold, that has led to roles in series such as Line of Duty, Being Human and Doctor Who, he trained as a teenager at Wrexham.

Jason said: "John Cleese and I worked together on Hold the Sunset - we talked a bit about sport, which we both love. I mentioned I’d trained a couple of summers at Wrexham AFC as a teenager.

"Wrexham shirts for us both arrived at the studio the next day, as surprise present from John."

And: "Proud to been included in a tiny way, in the story of this illustrious and long standing club."

In a tweet to new Wrexham owners Rob McElhenney and Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds, Jason added: "Ryan Reynolds and I in our Wrexham kits. Bring it on!"

It is, of course, not Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds in the photo but one of the UK's favourite comedy writers and actors John Cleese of Monty Python and Fawlty Towers fame.

Rob McElenney shared the photo, adding: "Ryan and I couldn’t be more excited to watch our first game as Chairmen-elect.

"He’s taller than I remember but it’s so great to see him again."
