COUNCIL chiefs have spoken to Wrexham AFC's new owners and they are confident the Hollywood superstars want to be part of the future of the town and county.

Today, Wrexham Council officially extended a welcome to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney as the pair sealed the deal to takeover the football club.

But it's not just our historic team the pair was to elevate to glory - they are committed to being part of the future of Wrexhaam.

The council's Leader and Chief Executive embraced Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney as part of the future of Wrexham AFC and Wrexham.

Cllr Mark Pritchard, Leader of the Council said: "We congratulate both Rob and Ryan on their wise investment and thank them for the positivity they have shown throughout the process. This included early discussions yesterday with both myself and Ian Bancroft, and it is clear there is a real commitment and enthusiasm to be part of both the development of the football club, town, and the wider county’

Ian Bancroft, Chief Executive, added: "We are delighted how quickly Rob and Ryan made contact with us and this provides a great basis for working together for the benefit of the football club and Wrexham. We are all ambitious about the potential Wrexham has both to have a top flight football club, and to play its role as the major urban centre at the heart of North Wales."

Ruth Rees, chair of Wrexham Business Group CIC and a member of the Town Business Forum, said the town was buzzing with the news that the eyes of the world is on the town.

Ruth, who is co-owner of Martin Rees Jewellers in the town, said: "We are absolutely thrilled. I was blown away, and they do really seem like decent guys.

"The idea of Wrexham having a higher profile, it's got to be a good thing.

"I can't tell you what a boost our morale it is to have such very positive news. There is light at the end of the tunnel, I firmly believe that. This is awesome."

Cllr Terry Evans, Wrexham Council's Lead Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, said the investment by the actors could only be positive for Wrexham and its businesses.

"There's a good buzz around Wrexham and that can only be good," he said.

He said: "It wasn't so much a spark as a rocket that went off yesterday. I have been in town today and people seem happier, the town is busier and we've grateful for that, those running businesses have smiles on their faces.

"It's very exciting news. It's been a long wait but its arrived now.

"With Wrexham working on the Gateway plan and all the positives that are going to come in with that, its all going to work with that. It's going to be massive for Wrexham."

Actors and producers Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney became the new owners of Wrexham AFC on Monday after their takeover bid was approved by the National League club’s Supporters Trust.

Wrexham Supporters Trust members voted 98.6% in favour to accept the offer of Deadpool star Reynolds and fellow actor McElhenney, who told them last week that they plan to turn the Welsh football club into a “global force”.
