AN ARMY of knitters have made a poignant tribute for Remembrance.
The display of 3,000 knitted and crocheted poppies, in both red and purple, are now on display in St Mary the Virgin Church in Overton On Dee.
The poppies were created to mark Remembrance but also to raise money for the church, the Royal British Legion, and the War Horse charity through visitors' donations.
One of the knitters, Tracey Leech said: "It was this time last year, I got together with some other ladies and had the idea of putting this display together. We called ourselves the Poppy Knitting Army. Through word of mouth and the village magazine the Overton Oracle word just spread and we ended up with making close to 3,000 poppies.
"We had about 40 ladies, of all ages, from 30 and up and the oldest lady is in her eighties. Because of the lockdown, they so enjoyed doing it, it gave them something to do."
"I'm so glad we've been able to do it. Nobody could have predicted the virus and the Royal British Legion have been struggling to raise money this year, it was as if it was just meant to be.
The church posted on Facebook: "Our Poppy Display for the Fallen is out to view! We hope you all like it.
"And now it’s up to you all the public. We need lots and lots of people to come along and view the display and give generously as the Royal British Legion and our church needs help this year more than any other time.
"Opening times are shown and we are covid safe we look forward to seeing you and I hope you don’t mind queueing!"
The display can be seen during church opening times, which can be found on the church's Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/StMarysOvertonOnDee
