NEW figures by Public Health Wales show exactly where coronavirus has been circulating within Flintshire and Wrexham communities.

The new mapping feature was first added to the daily update provided by health officials in response to COVID-19 last month – October.

It presents data broken down beyond the standard local authority areas that people could previously access and now shows how individual communities compare.

The data is gathered using Office of National Statistics figures of middle layer super output areas (MSOAs) and present the rolling number of cases in either a seven-day or 21-day window.

Darker areas indicate higher concentrations of the virus whilst lighter areas show lower transmission rates. The map details state that case numbers are suppressed for any MSOA where there were fewer than three identified cases.

It is expected over the next few weeks that the map will show how the recent fire-break period has impacted local communities. It ended on Monday, November 9, but the data lag won’t reveal its success until later on this month.

Here’s what we found in Flintshire:

The figures reveal that, during the latest seven-day period, Broughton and Saltney were recording the most cases of coronavirus with 25 people with the highest concentration at a rate of 208.3 cases per 100,000 people.

Mostyn and Holway stands out as the only area in Flintshire recording 0-2 coronavirus cases and has a community rate of less than 31 cases per 100,000 people.

• Ewloe and Hawarden - 11 cases and rate of 101.2 cases per 100,000 people

• Flint North East - 10 cases and rate of 144.0 cases per 100,000 people

• Flint South West - Three cases and rate of 48.3 cases per 100,000 people

• Gronant, Ffynnongroyw and Trelawnyd - Six cases and rate of 120.3 cases per 100,000 people

• Holywell and Bagillt - 26 cases and rate of 238.0 cases per 100,000 people

• Hope - 12 cases and rate of 193.9 cases per 100,000 people

• Leeswood, Gwernaffield and Treuddyn - 15 cases and rate of 201.8 cases per 100,000 people

• Mold - Seven cases and rate of 69.1 cases per 100,000 people

• Mostyn and Holway – 0-2 cases and rate of Less than 31 cases per 100,000 people

• New Brighton and Mynydd Isa - Eight cases and 111.0 cases per 100,000 people

• Pen-y-ffordd and Higher Kinnerton - 10 cases and rate of 162.9 cases per 100,000 people

Here’s what we found in Wrexham:

Over the border in Wrexham, the Cefn Mawr area – with 46 cases and rate of 501.2 cases per 100,000 people – tops the table both in terms of overall case number and concentration of infection.

• Bangor-on-Dee, Penley and Overton - Five cases and rate of 75.2 cases per 100,000 people

• Borras and Rhosnesni - 10 cases and rate of 206.6 cases per 100,000 people

• Caia Park - Seven cases and rate of 98.0 cases per 100,000 people

• Cefn Mawr - 46 cases and rate of 501.2 cases per 100,000 people

• Chirk and Ceiriog Valley - 17 cases and rate of 262.3 cases per 100,000 people

• Coedpoeth and Brymbo - 16 cases and rate of 175.3 cases per 100,000 people
