HAWARDEN HIGH SCHOOL

The Leader:

One of the school's teachers is celebrating, after winning the Institute of Physics Welsh Teacher of the Year Award.

The Institute of Physics is the professional body and learned society for physics in the UK and Ireland.

The IOP awards build and reinforce a sense of community by recognising and rewarding excellence in individuals and teams and their contribution to physics.

Mr Lewis said: "I'm really proud to receive this award and the recognition for the hard work and dedication I have put into the job.

"I would like to thank my colleagues who nominated me for this award."

Headteacher Simon Budgen said: “I am truly delighted Mr Lewis has received this national recognition of his efforts to promote physics within and beyond the school.

"In addition to his classroom success, Mr Lewis works across the science faculty to support and lead colleagues being highly innovative in his approach to physics education.

"He is incredibly knowledgeable about his subject and he teaches it in a way that connects with and fosters a love of physics.

"The whole Hawarden High School community pass on our heartfelt congratulations".

YSGOL RHIWABON

The Leader:

For the first two weeks of every year, Year 7s take part in SWAN.

This gives them the opportunity to explore some of the key subjects, while allowing them to meet their teachers and get to know their surroundings.

This culminates in them creating a newspaper article on the theme of Ysgol Rhiwabon Then And Now.

A presentation of SWAN certificates usually takes place in front of parents but of course thing were different this year.

With things being the way are are, a video was made of the occasion, which you can see here.

Pictured are each class with their certificates.

School mascot Maverick was also on hand to meet some of the Year 7 students at the start of the year.
