A FLINTSHIRE couple are set to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.

Ten years ago, the Leader reported that great-grandparents Ken and Peggy Mayall, of Mancot Royal Close, Mancot, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

On November 5, 2020 the couple will have reached their diamond celebration.

To mark the extra special occasion, the couple - who married in the most basic of ceremonies - will receive a card from the Queen.

Daughter Lorna Elliott said the pair were due to have special celebration but this was quashed due to the coronavirus restrictions.

Instead, the pair will be having a take out meal from the Royal Oak Kinnerton and will be staying in.

She added: "Mum is devastated as she had planned a family and friends 'do' at the Royal Oak but due to Covid she can't do that now.

"As a family, it is extra hard for us with the Wales lockdown but we will try to do our best to help them celebrate with lots of Zoom calls."

On the big day the couple shunned any thoughts of a white wedding to marry in Aylesbury Registry Office in their native Buckinghamshire in the presence of just two witnesses on November 5, 1960, with no photographs surviving from the couple’s big day.
