A COMMUNITY continues to support struggling families during the fire-break lockdown.

The Leader previously reported that the Deeside Round Table had teamed up with Morrisons supermarket in Connah's Quay to deliver 30 meals a day to families in need in the lcoal area.

On Tuesday, volunteers confirmed they delivered an incredible 99 free meals.

A spokesman said: "What a team community effort this has been. We started with the capacity to deliver 30 free meals to local families with children who are experiencing hardship or who’ve had a change in circumstances due to the pandemic.

"Well, today, we’re delivering an incredible 99 free meals to local families in need of some support in our local area.

"However, we couldn’t have done this alone. As well as our members who have been organising the referrals, lists, details and operation behind the scenes and who are volunteering their own time, out in all weathers, to deliver the meals to local families; we’d also like to say a massive thank you to Morrisons Connah's Quay, Dandy's Topsoil & Turf, The Big Estate Agency, and Home-Start Flintshire who have all made massive contributions to this appeal, from donating and packing food to making referrals to our scheme.

"It’s fantastic when local businesses, charities and organisations come together to support people in our community. There may be a lot of negative news and frustration at present, but there’s also some really positive things happening in our own area that make a difference to people’s lives."
