A FLINTSHIRE couple is fundraising for a family friend who is ‘putting up a hell of a fight’ after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Laura Harris, 38, from Ewloe, was diagnosed with terminal cancer three weeks ago and has since been in hospital fighting off multiple infections, including sepsis.

Wesley and Leah Jones found out about the terrible news and wanted to do all they could to ensure the family could make some special memories.

Leah told the Leader: “Laura is one of the mums at the school our children go to and when we found out, all of the mums wanted to do something to help.

“I said we should set up a raffle and all money can go to Laura so she can make memories with her children and not have to worry about how to pay.

“Laura is currently in hospital, but she is improving after a few bad days last week.

“Yesterday she was sat in the chair all day and she is breathing [the] majority on her own, but she still needs oxygen.

“When she’s out the plan is for her to either go on a holiday and make memories or to make this Christmas extra special for the children.”

Leah was diagnosed with primary bowel cancer and secondary liver cancer after experiencing mild stomach ache.

She has faced several challenges whilst in hospital including a perforation and sepsis but Leah said she remains strong and continues to fight.

The fundraising page has already brought in over £7,000 and Leah will be hosting a raffle at 7pm on October 30, live on the Laura’s Army Facebook page.

The Facebook page was set up as mums at the school wanted to rally around to help.

Leah added: “She’s fighting all of these infections and she’s putting up one hell of a fight. It’s amazing.

“She won’t be able to go abroad but maybe we can send her to a retreat holiday so she can still make memories.

“We are just so grateful to everyone who has donated prizes for the raffle and to everyone who also bought tickets.

“We are so overwhelmed with the generosity of people, the local community has been absolutely wonderful.”

Prizes for the raffle range from PT sessions, beauty prizes and a £300 tattoo voucher.

Wesley was also supposed to complete a three-day cycle tour around the county as part of the fundraiser, but due to the fire-break lockdown he will be unable to do so.
