A "VERY friendly and decent" Wrexham man overdosed on heroin and multiple other drugs, an inquest heard.

Kevin John Powell, 47, died at his address on Glaslyn, Plas Madoc in Acrefair on September 17, 2019.

An inquest held in Ruthin on Monday (October 12) into Mr Powell's death heard that on the afternoon of September 17, he and two others had taken heroin and a synthetic cannabinoid (benzodiazepine) known as 'mamba'.

After using the drugs, Mr Powell fell unresponsive and emergency services were called to the scene.

Despite all care and efforts, Mr Powell, who was sat on a chair in the living room, was pronounced dead at 3.15pm, the inquest was told.

A post-mortem examination into his death found a multitude of drugs Mr Powell's system; including heroin, diazepine, low levels of cocaine and an anti-depressant - which was at a potentially toxic level.

The heroin was found to be at a level commonly associated with having the potential to be fatal, and a provisional cause of death was recorded as being morphine overdose with multi-drug intake.

Mr Powell was described by family members as a "decent person" who "went down the wrong path".

Members of local substance misuse services say he was "friendly and caring" and someone who wanted to turn his life around.

Recording a conclusion of drug-related death, John Gittins, senior coroner for North Wales East and Central, deemed on the balance of probability Mr Powell's death to have been caused by morphine overdose with multi-drug intake.
