THE FIRST Minister is ‘reluctant’ to tell children that Halloween is cancelled.

As concern around a second coronavirus wave increases, restrictions continue to be brought in in a bid to curb the spread of the virus.

First Minister Mark Drakeford said Welsh Government will be releasing guidance closer to Halloween advising children on how they can celebrate the event.

However, at the Welsh Government briefing, he said he was ‘reluctant’ to tell young people that the occasion was cancelled, and imaginative ways would ensure the event can still go ahead.

He added: “If these events are to go ahead at all, they will have to go ahead in a different way than they have done in any other year.

“I’m very reluctant to say to children and young people that Halloween is cancelled in Wales but I do think there are ways which may be possible for a different sort of celebration to take place that doesn’t cause risk to them or others.

“I know there are people working very had on this with imaginative ideas about things that could be done to still allow children to enjoy the occasion but they have to be done ways that keep them and other people safe.

“We will be providing further guidance on that as we get closer to the time.”
