In a letter sent to parents, seen by the Leader, reads: "Information regarding a confirmed case of coronavirus in Year 7 at Elfed High School

"NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect has been informed of a confirmed case of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in Elfed High School.

"It is working closely with Public Health Wales, the Local Authority and NHS Wales Test, Trace and Protect to ensure that all the appropriate measures are in place to protect students, staff and the wider community. This letter is to inform you of the current situation and to provide advice on how to support your child.

"All close contacts of the case have been identified and have received appropriate advice to self-isolate."

Headteacher, Mr Alistair Stubbs said: "Following the information received this morning, we were required to direct our Year 7 students to self-isolate. We have worked hard to establish a seamless curriculum that can continue remotely. Students will be able to follow their timetable as usual via our digital platforms and this will ensure continued structure over the next two weeks.”

Flintshire County Council’s Chief Officer for Education and Youth, Claire Homard, added: “The County Council has been informed of and is advising on a confirmed case of Covid-19 at Elfed High School. The school has followed all the appropriate protocols and engaged with the NHS Test, Trace and Protect (TTP) Team and the Council’s Environmental Health Team.

“Pupils identified as close contacts of the confirmed case have been informed and are now self-isolating in line with national guidance. This advice relates only to the Year 7 cohort at the current time.

“The rest of the school remains open and it is not necessary for any other child to self-isolate, stay away from school or to be tested, unless they are advised to do so by the TTP team or if they develop symptoms of Covid-19.

“Parents are encouraged to remain calm but vigilant and not send their child to school if they are unwell. If a parent believes their child is showing symptoms of Covid-19 they should book a test by going to https://gov.wales/apply-coronavirus-covid-19-test.”
