CHARITY champion bikers are to take on an 800+ mile trip to raise money for a good cause.

Jason Lewis, from Coedpoeth, is the organiser of the popular annual RIDE Cymru events.

Each time, a team of motorcyclists take on an epic ride dressed as Evel Knievel in order to raise money for charity.

Mr Lewis has confirmed the latest fundraising stunt is to take place this weekend.

A total of £21,000 had been raised in April for charity as part of RIDE MANX KNIEVELS 2020, but Covid caused the event not to proceed.

Mr Lewis said: "What was to be an event to have a change from the annual RIDE Cymru perimeter of Wales, the Manx event swiftly mutated to ‘Being Evel From Home’.

"We claimed it to be the world's first lockdown motorcycle event, with 60 UK entrants - many from North Wales and 20 Isle of Man entrants.

"But we had still not undertaken a Motorcycle challenge to justify the thousands of pounds of sponsorship.

"Following lockdown being relaxed it was decided upon in August to arrange a replacement ride for the end of September."

This event is to be 'RIDE LETJOG KNIEVELS' (Lands End to John O’Groats).

The most famous challenge route in the UK will see the now famous charity Knievels motorcycle the 870 miles by old fashioned A Roads over the weekend of September 26 and 27.

Mr Lewis added: "In the past week or so lockdown has began to be stricter across regions of the UK - so Knievels will be following a strict protocol on all fuel and rest stops to respect and follow guidelines in England and Scotland.

"With it being a pre-organised team event and charity fundraiser the disciplined Knievels will be in groups of six at all stops and exercising social distance accordingly.

"Departing Lands End at 7am on Saturday morning we shall reach John O’Groats at 8pm Sunday evening.

"The replacement event has seen our 2020 fund page spring back to life with another £1,000 added in recent weeks.

"In addition to Isle of Man entrants also doing their own rearranged ride recently - the total fundraising for 2020 has now reached £25,000."
