TWO colleagues have put on their running shoes to raise hundreds of pounds for a cause close to their hearts.

Paul Jones and Carl Brown have been work colleagues at Cable Services in Wrexham for over 10-years and have been long established runners and friends.

The pair planned to run a marathon for charity, but unfortunately got cancelled due to the current pandemic.

So they decided to think outside the box and run their own, personal marathon to raise almost £400 for the Nightingale House Hospice.

Carl said: "Paul Jones and I are long established runners and have been for a number of years. Through the difficulties and restrictions over the Covid-19 period, we both had organised Marathon’s cancelled so haven’t been able to run what we had planned to in 2020.

"As well as our love for running, both Paul and I have been work colleagues at Cable Services at Wrexham for over 10 years, and felt we wanted to do something to support our local Charity, Nightingale House Hospice as they would have been severely been affected with lack of events happening which would help them raise the vital funds for the hospice.

"We have decided to run a half Marathon, that’s a total of 13.1miles on Sunday, September 13, starting at 9.30am which coincidentally is the same day as the “Great North Run” virtual run."

The pair started from the new Cable Services Group Head Office on Wrexham Industrial Estate and ran a loop around to the Old offices at Rhosddu Industrial Estate to end up back where they started.

A spokesman for the company added: "A huge well done to both Paul and Carl who completed their 13.1mile half marathon on Sunday.

"They have raised close to £400.00 which is to be donated the the Nightingale House Hospice. Paul and Carl would like to thank all those who donated to this cause and also those who supported them on the day."
