A VOLUNTEER group has organised a memory walk to raise vital funds for young cancer patients.

The Penyffordd Red Lion in-house volunteer fundraising team is hosting a Memory Walk on Sunday (September 20).

The Memory Walk will not only be raising funds for three charities, which are CLIC Sargent, Marie Curie North Wales and Dementia UK, but will also act as a memorial service for loved ones sadly lost throughout the lockdown period.

The event will operate in staggered time slots from 10am until 7pm on Sunday, with all routes starting and ending at the Penyffordd Red Lion.

There will also be a market vibe as stall holders will be set-up all day long.

At 7pm there will be a special light switch-on in the rear garden of the pub.

People will be invited to leave messages to their loved ones, which will then be hung on the old oak tree.

There will also be a huge raffle and tombola as well as other activities going on throughout the day.

Steve Saxon, landlord of the Red Lion, said: "We are a very close community here in Penyffordd, we not only pride ourselves on looking after each other but also being very charitable to those who need help the most.

"This Memory Walk that Julie Jones has organised on behalf of #TeamRedVolunteers will be an opportunity for the community and beyond to come together to raise vital funds for very special charities, and to say farewell to those who lost their lives over lockdown."

Sophie Meadows, fundraising engagement manager for CLIC Sargent North Wales, added: "When cancer strikes young lives we fight tirelessly to limit the damage it causes beyond their health.

"We rely entirely on donations to fund our vital work and so we can’t thank the dedicated volunteers from #TeamRed enough for their fantastic efforts.

"I hope that everyone in Penyffordd gets behind them and gives generously to help us reach even more children, young people and their families to give them the support they need."
